EA supposedly wants to be bought, plans to dismiss 200 employees
Could the next big takeover deal in the gaming industry soon be imminent? After Microsoft already wants to incorporate Activision Blizzard and bought Sony the Destiny studio Bungie, Electronic Arts also wants to participate in the big sales game. However, the company is no longer planning to incorporate another company, but would like to be bought up instead.
Fusion or takeover: EA tries to deal with Disney and Co.
As reports the editorial team of Kotaku with reference to a report by the industry magazine Puck (Paywall), EA is located in merger talks with NCBCuniversal and in negotiations on a possible takeover by Disney, Apple or Amazon. According to Puck reporter Dylan Beyers, EA persistently strives for a takeover and is all the more motivated due to the deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard. However, some sources also claimed that EA was primarily aiming for a merger that CEO Andrew Wilson put at the top of the joint company.

Negotiations with NCBUniversal were already very advanced, but a merger did not come about due to disagreements in relation to the financial conditions of the deal. As Beyers reports, Wilson then approached Disney in March 2022 to initiate negotiations for a takeover. The fact that EA is aiming for a takeover by Disney is probably no coincidence. After all, the publisher did not extend the deal for the exclusive Star Wars license after 2023, so that other publishers now also come around the corner with Star Wars projects. D
In the meantime, EA is probably also preparing for a sale: Around 200 customer service staff had to take their hat because their jobs were mined in favor of cheap workers in Romania and India. Incidentally, neither EA nor Disney, Amazon or Apple wanted to comment on Puck's report to Kotaku.
